Jisc renews and expands agreement for Policy Commons with no price increase

In a deal inked last week, Jisc and Coherent Digital have renewed and expanded their agreement for Policy Commons.

Policy Commons brings together 11.6 million cross-searchable documents from think tanks, IGOs, NGOs, and national, city, and local governments. It covers more policy organizations than any other database in the world. Hundreds of new reports are added every hour.

"We’ve built Policy Commons so that researchers and organizations don’t have to spend valuable time and resources setting up projects and systems to track down vital grey literature and track their institution’s impact—because we’ve already done it," said Toby Green, publisher of the project.

Despite the database’s exponential growth and expanded source list, Coherent Digital will offer it at the same affordable Jisc rates negotiated in 2021. Three new modules have also been added as additional options to the 2024-26 agreement: World Cities, North American City Reports, and World Governments. The decision to renew and expand the agreement was based on widespread popularity of the resource, evident from its substantial use in the UK and the successful two-year collaboration with Jisc.

“With an expanding user base encompassing hundreds of institutions globally, we feel it’s important to uphold accessible pricing for all UK Higher Education Institutions,” said Adam Gardner, the sales director for Europe. "Researchers from nearly every UK higher education institution have registered for access to Policy Commons—on average 220 scholars from each Russell Group institution. There’s a clear demand for the resource, and we’re thrilled that Jisc is extending its reach with affordable pricing.”

The agreement begins in April 2024. All participating Jisc member institutions and affiliated researchers are eligible.
