Coherent Digital Commons

Latin America Commons

Latin American history, culture, scholarship, and primary sources — local-language, often free in home countries.

About this family

What's inside.

Local-language archives and primary sources from across Latin America, often free to users in their home countries. Produced with local partners.

Latin America Commons: a mission to preserve, digitize, and disseminate

Responding to direct requests from the library community and building on the success of our earlier projects, Africa Commons and South Asia Commons, we developed Latin America Commons to enhance the discoverability of Latin American and Latinx content.

By partnering with libraries and archives worldwide, we discover, digitize, and preserve essential, at-risk materials from Latin America.

The initiative has launched with its first collection, Latin American History and Culture, providing centralized access to centuries of Latin American and Latinx primary-source materials, previously scattered across the internet.

Over time, Latin America Commons will expand, providing scholars, students, and broader audiences with access to these resources, fostering more inclusive and equitable research opportunities.

Why this Commons matters

Latin American voices, preserved and discoverable.

Preserving Latin America's Story, One Document at a Time

Built in response to direct requests from the library community, Latin America Commons partners with libraries and archives worldwide to discover, digitize, and preserve at-risk materials from across the region — ensuring centuries of Latin American and Latinx history remain accessible for generations to come.

Centuries of Latin American History, Finally in One Place

Latin America Commons debuts with its first collection, Latin American History and Culture, bringing together primary-source materials previously scattered across the internet. Scholars, students, and curious readers now have a single, centralized home for the region's rich documentary heritage.

Following Africa and South Asia, a New Commons Takes Shape

Building on the success of Africa Commons and South Asia Commons, Coherent Digital expands its global preservation mission to Latin America — creating more inclusive, equitable research opportunities and giving underrepresented voices the discoverability they deserve.
