Simon Thomson

Simon is Research Impact Analyst at Coherent Digital, bringing over 20 years of experience in analyzing research and innovation performance. Prior to this, he led Clarivate’s consulting teams across Europe and the Middle East.

Throughout his career, Simon has led high-profile impact assessments and research analysis projects for global institutions, including UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Royal Society, the Wellcome Trust, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Egyptian government, the Saudi Water Authority, and the Indian Department of Science and Technology. Notably, he also led the delivery of crucial citation data for the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.
Simon holds a PhD in Structural Biology from the University of Sheffield and an MSc in Public Policy and Management from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
