Hundreds of short-form, skills-based videos and VR experiences for mental health education.

Find hundreds of short-form videos and VR experiences for teaching and training in counseling, psychology, social work, nursing, and related fields—the majority exclusive.
The collection spans a broad range of counseling approaches, clinical topics, and client populations, including Family Systems Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Multicultural Counseling, Alzheimer's disease, caregiver support, and many other areas of mental health practice.
Most of the items are less than five years old, including dozens produced in 2025.
1. Develop clinical skills. Demonstration therapy sessions are led by expert clinicians. Students build confidence and develop competence with evidence-based therapies, when they observe clients working through trauma, addiction, grief, and other challenges.
2. Build empathy and understanding. Immersion in more than 50 VR experiences lets students “walk in the shoes” of individuals facing depression, anxiety, bullying, homelessness, and more.
3. Diversify your resources. Access a wide range of content highlighting international perspectives, first-generation stories, multicultural dynamics, immigration experiences, and issues related to gender identity, socioeconomic status, and spirituality.
Mental Health in VR and Video was previously published as Mindscape Commons, winning prestigious awards from The Charleston Advisor, the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), and others.
With this release, the project has 100 additional videos and VR experiences, along with lots of new features and functionality.
The content is now on Coherent’s Applied Science Commons platform—where it’s faster, updated to work with the latest VR headsets, meets WCAG accessibility standards, and has additional tools including content alerts, in-depth Boolean searching, playlist capability, and more.
Microcases are popular, three-to-four-minute clips of clients with issues such as anger, suicidal ideation, anxiety, grief, and trauma. Students learn to identify the presenting emotions.
Microcases have been called “a virtual library of emotions” and are the most heavily used items in the collection. Coherent developed the series in collaboration with Dr. Tyler Wilkinson, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Counseling, Mercer University.
For my master’s level course, we watched virtual Microcases together and practiced reflective listening responses … one student said she’d “like to do about 100 of these!” —Cari Kaufman, LMFT, San Francisco State University
Interactive Simulations are ten-to-fifteen-minute videos that demonstrate positive relationship techniques in General, School, and Career Counseling settings. They address empathy, goal setting, positive regard, alliance ruptures, stages of change, evaluating suicide risk, and other topics. The learner is asked to answer assessment questions sprinkled throughout, to move the demonstration from segment to segment. The format demands active engagement and increases understanding.
The simulations were developed in partnership with Dr. Carlos Zalaquett, Professor of Counselor Education at The Pennsylvania State University, an internationally recognized expert.
Mental Health in VR and Video will bring a range of experts to your faculty and students. Examples include Dr. Tori Olds, a leading family systems expert with a major social media following; Dr. Judith Johnson, a prominent UK-based clinical psychologist who is recognized for her expertise in CBT; and Dr. Ann Vernon and Dr. Christine Schimmel, internationally respected scholars and practitioners who have shaped the field of school counseling with their innovative approaches and deep commitment to student well-being.
Mental Health in VR and Video is available as a purchase with perpetual rights or as an annual subscription.
Customers who subscribe to Applied Psychology, also on the Applied Science Commons platform, can cross-search both collections.
