An award-winning resource, expanded and updated
Mental Health in VR and Video was previously published as Mindscape Commons, winning prestigious awards from The Charleston Advisor, the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), and others.
With this release, the project has 100 additional videos and VR experiences, along with lots of new features and functionality.
The content is now on Coherent’s Applied Science Commons platform—where it’s faster, updated to work with the latest VR headsets, meets WCAG accessibility standards, and has additional tools including content alerts, in-depth Boolean searching, playlist capability, and more.
Original content exclusive to Mental Health and VR in Video includes...

Microcase: Anxiety
Microcases
Microcases are popular, three-to-four-minute clips of clients with issues such as anger, suicidal ideation, anxiety, grief, and trauma. Students learn to identify the presenting emotions.
Microcases have been called “a virtual library of emotions” and are the most heavily used items in the collection. Coherent developed the series in collaboration with Dr. Tyler Wilkinson, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Counseling, Mercer University.
For my master’s level course, we watched virtual Microcases together and practiced reflective listening responses ... one student said she'd "like to do about 100 of these!" —Cari Kaufman, LMFT, San Francisco State University

Interactive Simulations
Interactive Simulations are ten-to-fifteen-minute videos that demonstrate positive relationship techniques in General, School, and Career Counseling settings. They address empathy, goal setting, positive regard, alliance ruptures, stages of change, evaluating suicide risk, and other topics. The learner is asked to answer assessment questions sprinkled throughout, to move the demonstration from segment to segment. The format demands active engagement and increases understanding.
The simulations were developed in partnership with Dr. Carlos Zalaquett, Professor of Counselor Education at The Pennsylvania State University, an internationally recognized expert.
