Applied Science Commons Wins Big at the 2024 Charleston Premiers
Contact: Toby Green
Coherent Digital took home two prestigious awards at the recent Charleston Conference. Public Health and Social Care won the Charleston Premiers for the most impactful product, and overall Coherent Digital won for innovation.
The Charleston Premiers is a fast-paced, five-minute showcase of cutting-edge solutions from leading publishers, moderated by Darrell W. Gunter, Managing Director of Gunter Media Group. With a focus on addressing the evolving needs of libraries and researchers, the event celebrates innovation and creativity in libraries and publishing. Attendees are invited to vote in real time for the most innovative product, the most impactful product, and the best design.
Public Health and Social Care is part of Coherent’s new Applied Science Commons initiative, bridging the gap between academic research and real-world impact. The number of journal citations to nontraditional sources—such as websites, reports, case studies, technical documents, and social media—is surging, yet much of it remains outside mainstream academic discovery services, making this material difficult to locate, cite, and preserve. Applied Science Commons provides a simple, affordable solution by making this content as easy to discover and cite as journal articles, and preserves it to ensure that it remains available over time.
Toby Green, cofounder of Coherent Digital, expressed his excitement about the recognition. "It’s an honor to be recognized for our work, especially as more funders and universities look for tangible societal impact. Our new Applied Science Commons platform is specifically intended to allow universities, NGOs, IGOs, government agencies, and corporations to address critical global challenges like climate change and public health."
Coherent Digital extends its gratitude to the organizers and attendees and congratulates Elsevier ScienceDirect AI for winning the award for best design.
